The art for this stamp was created by Dan Cosgrove. It is a digital illustration based on photographs. The scene on the stamp pictures a sawgrass marsh at sunset with cypress trees in the foreground along with a great egret in flight and a great blue heron fishing in the shallows. There’s also a half-submerged American alligator pictured, one of the most famous species associated with the Everglades. In the background, a flock of roseate spoonbills and other waterbirds take flight over the marsh.
